Deflagration to Detonation Transition (DDT) – flame speed reaches sonic velocity resulting in auto ignition of the gas due to shock wave - overdriven detonation. 

In-Line Detonation Arresters are specifically designed for pipelines that are manifolded or with significant distance between ignition source and Flame Arrester, or for use where the pipeline is rough, bent, or obstructed. 

General Rules:

  • Can be placed any distance from the ignition source.
  • Unstable detonation arresters can be used with only minor restriction on their placement in the pipework (restriction on protected side). 
  • Any number of bends is allowed.
  • Sources of flame acceleration are not of concern
