The technology required to ensure the drill tool of a floating platform remains in contact with the sea bed at all times is complicated but at the heart of all such systems is a series of valves which allow the high pressure air to breath in and out of the air receivers necessary to hold the drill bit stable. This design not only reduced the footprint of the skid but it also saved valuable kilo's of weight.
